Laurie Berkner has been involved with music since 1992. Although she has been surprised by her quick success with children's music she loves to write and perform for children.

Laurie Berkner grew up in Princeton, New Jersey and has always been involved in music, whether singing in choris, playing in bands, or performing in musical theater.

Working with children has become the perfect creative outlet for Laurie Berkner to express her talents and created something that she says, "has turned out to be incredibly rewarding".

She and her husband have just become the proud parents of a new baby girl named Lucy.

It's easy to see why Billboard Magazine called Victor Vito one of the best kids' albums. In addition to Laurie Berkner's acoustic guitar you'll hear flute, harmonica, horns and maracas. From a cappella harmonies on Moon Moon Moon and White Coral Bells to the bouncy irresistibly catchy title track, Laurie Berkner's Victor Vito is chock-full of songs that kids love. Childrens' Music Web awarded Laurie Berkner "Best Recording For Toddlers" for Victor Vito.

More About Laurie

"Whose songs spark playful singing, gleeful dancing and sublime silliness? Laurie Berkner's, of course! ...As children expand their repertoire of animal noises, pretend their arms are alligator jaws, or just plain sing and dance along, Laurie Berkner's songs provide irresistible entertainment for your child's mind and body."

–-Noggin TV (PBS and Nickelodeon's educational, non-commercial station aimed at preschoolers)

Laurie Berkner has been involved with music since 1992, but her recent success as a children's recording artist was a surprise to her. "It was so unexpected," says Laurie. "I'd been performing in rock and struggling to write original music. Writing music for kids has not been a struggle at all. The more I started working on material for children, the more I realized that it opened up creativity in me that I never knew I had."

While Laurie never planned to be a children's performer music was certainly in her blood, and working with children was a running theme. Growing up in Princeton, New Jersey, Laurie was always involved in music, whether singing in choirs, playing in bands, or performing in musical theater. In high school and throughout college she toured Europe with several choirs and orchestras as a soloist and guitarist. After college, Laurie worked as music counselor at summer camps, and later worked for several years as a children's music specialist at New York area preschool and day care centers. Working with children became the perfect creative outlet for Laurie to express her talents and create something that, she says, "has turned out to be incredibly rewarding."

Fred Koch of Chicago Parent Magazine endorses Laurie, "as a former preschool teacher Berkner understands the importance of creating music for children that spotlights a variety of textures and musical styles. Armed with her acoustic guitar, she glides effortlessly between these musical grooves, creating a recording that is engaging for kids and palatable for grown-ups."
