On The Good Ship Lollipop
What’s this? The Persuasions singing Shirley Temple? And Patti Page? How could the undisputed heavyweight champions of soulful a cappella sing about teddy bears, rock candy mountains and lollipops? Easy! Jerry Lawson calls this their "dream album". "We’ve always wanted to do a kids’ album", he said. "Now we’ve got the perfect marriage for doing the project: Music for Little People and us!" The group is an American musical institution, coming together in 1961, on the streetcorners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, New York - long before Boyz II Men were even Babiez II Boyz. "We carried the torch by ourselves for a long time, and now there are over four or five hundred a cappella groups", said Lawson. "That just makes us feel good. Anything that happens as far as a cappella is concerned puts a feather in our caps." The latest feather being On The Good Ship Lollipop, one of the most downright happy kids’ albums ever made. The Persuasions invited some young very young friends to sing along with them on several tunes---just as they invite you and your family to sing along, too.
